Apple Pie

First let me just say I HATE pie! the mushiness is not my thing! For a Homeschool cooking class we decided to use our fresh apples from our apple trees and make canned apple pie filling. Honestly I thought I’d be giving it all away!!! We decided to make two apples pies from scratch and to try it out. Well it took all day to can and make the fillings we got over 70 done! It was a fun all day project. We then started the making of the pies and as those pies started cooking my house started smelling better and better. So I decided okay fine I will try a small bit with a huge big to drown out the mushiness of pie filling. We I took that small bit and it was amazing and the best surprise the fresh apples were firm and crunchy like an apple should be. It was a party in my mouth! needless to say we remake it every Thanksgiving and I down it! So do my kids!

*******How to Seel: Follow the directions on the pot you use for seeling and canning like the All American 21.5 QT Pressure Cooker Bundle with 2 Racks and Norpro Canning Essentials 6 Piece Box Set*******

Pie Crust Directions: If Making 2 Follow all these Steps again

      • ******NO MIXURE use a KNIFE to mix********
      • Mix – Flour, shortening, salt
      • Mix in – egg, water, vinegar
      • Knead with hands only, until its smooth and is a great ball of dough
      • Separate into two balls ***PRE HEAT OVEN 400 DEGREES
      • Roll out one half and put in a pie dish (I prefer pampered chef) This can be pretty fragile dough so sometime and extra pair of hands is helpful. slide hands carefully under rolled out dough and lift carefully and place in the pie dish
      • Press dough snug to the dish and lay extra over the sides and cut extra that is hanging over the sides off (save this extra dough)
      • Fill with the homemade apple filling
      • Repeat step 5
      • Place rolled out dough on top of filling, go around edges cut of extra hanging over (save dough) now take you fingers and press both doughs together to make seem and make a wavy boarder on the edges
      • Make 3 long slits across the top to allow the pie to breath and cook inside better.
      • Take extra dough form a ball and roll out keep thick then use a turkey cookie cutter to cut out a turkey. Place the turkey write on top in the middle of the pie
      • Lightly sprinkle with cinnamon on top
      • Cook at 400 degrees for 50 minutes (cover with tinfoil for the first 30 minutes, then take off foil)
      • Pull out and eat with vanilla bean ice cream or homemade Vanilla Ice cream

It’s SUPER important!!!!!!! If you want this to turn our perfect DO NOT USE A MIXER do it all by hand!!!!!!
