Best Apple Pie

This is the best homemade apple pie you will ever make!

Ingredients

Apple Pie Filling:

  • Fresh apples from tree or fresh from the store (enough to fill 7, 1QT Jars)
  • 4 and 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 1 cup Corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Ground cloves
  • 1 tsp Almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 Tbls Lemon juice

Pie Crust: (makes 1 pie) we like to make 2 but do it seporatly don't double do one batch at a time

This crust is my moms recipe and it is the best flaky crust ever!

  • 2 and 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Shortening **butter flavored** crisco shortening (in the cubes)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Beaten egg with a wisk or fork
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 Tbls Vinegar
  • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream or check out our Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream recipe

Instructions

Apple Pie Filling Directions:

  1. Fill 7, 1QT jars apple slices

  2. In a very large pot (You can find this item on the Kitchen appliances page) boil 9 cups water and 3-1/2 cups sugar

  3. In a bowl mix - 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup cornstarch, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground cloves, 1 tsp almond extract, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 cup cold H2O, 3 Tbls lemon juice

  4. Stir into boiling liquid (the very big pot) Stir until its clear, to thin you can ad 1/2 to 1 cup hot water

  5. Pour evenly over the apples in all 7 jars

  6. If you want be using it all today Seel to uses later for years to come! (we have been using the same batch form 6 years ago and the apples are still firm!)

Pie Crust Directions: If Making 2 Follow all these Steps again

  1. ******NO MIXURE use a KNIFE to mix********

  2. Mix - Flour, shortening, salt

  3. Mix in - egg, water, vinegar

  4. Knead with hands only, until its smooth and is a great ball of dough

  5. Separate into two balls ***PRE HEAT OVEN 400 DEGREES

  6. Roll out one half and put in a pie dish (I prefer pampered chef) This can be pretty fragile dough so sometime and extra pair of hands is helpful. slide hands carefully under rolled out dough and lift carefully and place in the pie dish

  7. Press dough snug to the dish and lay extra over the sides and cut extra that is hanging over the sides off (save this extra dough)

  8. Fill with the homemade apple filling

  9. Repeat step 5

  10. Place rolled out dough on top of filling, go around edges cut of extra hanging over (save dough) now take you fingers and press both doughs together to make seem and make a wavy boarder on the edges

  11. Make 3 long slits across the top to allow the pie to breath and cook inside better.

  12. Take extra dough form a ball and roll out keep thick then use a turkey cookie cutter to cut out a turkey. Place the turkey write on top in the middle of the pie

  13. Lightly sprinkle with cinnamon on top

  14. Cook at 400 degrees for 50 minutes (cover with tinfoil for the first 30 minutes, then take off foil)

  15. Pull out and eat with vanilla bean ice cream or homemade Vanilla Ice cream

It's SUPER important!!!!!!! If you want this to turn our perfect DO NOT USE A MIXER do it all by hand!!!!!!
